Managing IP authentication for institutional access

Modified on Thu, 18 Jan 2024 at 11:11 AM

Please provide us with a set of public-facing IP addresses that will allow us to uniquely identify internet traffic from all authorised users within your institution. Once we have these, any visits to ICE Virtual Library from these IPs will be automatically be granted access to your paid for content.

Access by IP is preferred - we can register both IPv4 and IPv6 protocols (if both are in operation at your institution, it is essential that both are registered to the account).

To use Emerald’s e-resources institutions should obtain and use a fixed, external IP address. Why?

  • Instant recognition for institution
  • Administration reduced as all computers networked on the IP address can access e-resources
  • Heightened security

For these reasons we also do not allow an IANA or BOGON IP addresses to be registered for access - as per the list
here.

We can add your IP ranges for you, or registered Account Administrator can add these directly when logged in on the ICE Virtual Library. Please contact Customer Support for additional information.
