Remote access Federations (Shibboleth / OpenAthens Single Sign-On)

For this to work your institution must be registered with a remote access federation, such as the UK Access Management Federation or OpenAthens. If you are, you just need to provide us with your unique ‘EntityID’, which you should have from your federation.  

The remote access federations which the ICE Virtual Library is already integrated with are listed on the Shibboleth page (switch the Geographic Region drop-down to ‘List all institutions’). If you are part of an existing remote access federation that is not on that list, please contact us and we will approach our platform supplier to investigate integrating with them.

Once your entity ID is registered, your users will be able to sign in to ICE Virtual Library by selecting ‘Sign in via your Institution’ on our sign in page. It will take them to our Shibboleth page to select the right federation.  Your institution’s unique WAFLess link to ICE Virtual Library can also be added to your systems. 

Your users have to enter a valid institutional username and password in order to be allowed access to ICE Virtual Library, unless these credentials are already present in the session. Once they have successfully authenticated in this way, they will have access to all your paid for content.

You can give your ‘Entity ID’ to us to add to our system, or registered Account Administrators can add this details when logged in to ICE Virtual Library as an administrator.
